the Great Stupa of Boudhanath
Classes are held within the Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery complex, just a few minutes' walk from the Great Stupa of Boudhanath in the Kathmandu Valley. Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling is one of Nepal's largest monasteries and houses more than 225 monks and lamas. The abbot of the monastery, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, is a renowned Buddhist teacher who leads seminars on meditation and Buddhist philosophy in Nepal and around the world.
The township of Boudhanath, a community with many Tibetan monasteries, has grown up around the Great Stupa which is said to house the relics of the previous Buddha, Mahākāśyapa. The area is home to many revered teachers and is a pilgrimage point for many others. It is a major resettlement area for Tibetan Buddhists, and students of the 2014 Summer Studies program will have ample opportunity to learn about, and immerse themselves in, the local Nepalese and Tibetan culture.
Applications are accepted from 1 October - 1 May.
Online Learning
RYI offers a large number of online courses designed for students who wish to study but are unable to attend classes in Nepal. These cover Philosophy, Language and Specialized Studies and may be taken for credit or simply to further personal interests.
