Welcome to all of our alumni!
When you leave RYI, you are automatically enrolled as a member of RYI’s alumni community. Your experience at RYI serves as the basis to inspire others to come to study at RYI in the future. Your time at RYI also makes it possible for programs to continue to be offered to others. We are grateful for that!
This page is your main point of contact with the institute and former classmates, teachers, and friends. Stay in touch us to learn about events at the institute and to network with friends and like-minded colleagues.
Please explore this list of ways you can be involved even after you leave campus. Included in the list are special services offered exclusively for our alumni!
Stay in touch!
The best place to stay up-to-date with what is happening at RYI and the entire extended sangha of Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche is to join the RYI Alumni Facebook page.
You can find RYI on other social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, and SoundCloud.
Subscribe to the RYI e-newsletters which come out twice per year featuring RYI alumni in the “Where are they now?” column.
We welcome ideas and writing and image submissions on all of these platforms. Would you like to suggest an article for the newsletter, or share information and resources on the alumni Facebook page? Perhaps contribute an image? Please be in touch.
Update your contact information
Have you moved recently? Changed your email address? We aim to keep current with your information. Our new portal system will allow you to update your contact information easily and we will widely announce its launch. For now, if you would like to update your information, please contact us.
Become an Alumni Mentor
Remember when you first packed your bags and embarked on the long flight to Nepal? Were you sure you had enough socks? Did you forget your toothbrush and not know if you would find one on the other side? Perhaps you were expecting studying at a quiet monastery in a rural setting deep in the Himalayas...
Every semester, new students arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport for the first time, wide-eyed and carrying many expectations. Your experience living in Nepal and studying at RYI might be a great help to them before they set off on their journeys.
RYI’s alumni mentor program seeks to pair alumni with potential and incoming students to ease the transition to Nepal and the programs at RYI. Are you interested in becoming a mentor? Contact us for more information about the program.
Alumni Discount for Online Learning Courses
A fifty percent tuition reduction for one online course per year is offered to any alumnus/a who has studied at least two semesters or one full summer intensive course on campus with us, but who are not currently in a program on campus, and anyone who has completed a course online for-credit. Please contact us to register for your class.
Come Back to Visit Nepal!
There are numerous opportunities to come back to visit us here in Boudha. RYI runs short courses on interesting texts at different times during the year, and various visiting lecturers speak each semester sometimes over the course of a few weeks. Check out the calendar to see what is up and coming.
We are hosting our eleventh international symposium on Buddhist Studies this March 25-26, 2017. The topic is, "Transnational Buddhism: Philosophical, Anthropological, and Historical Perspectives." This coincides with our twentieth anniversary celebration--we would love to see you all in Kathmandu for this event! Read more about the topic and the internationally renowned speakers confirmed for the symposium here: http://www.ryi.org/symposium-2017.
Social work opportunities are plentiful with Rangjung Yeshe Shenpen, the monastery’s social action arm. Visit their website and their Facebook page for more information, or to be in touch to learn more about these opportunities.
Each November, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, Chokling Rinpoche, and Phakchok Rinpoche host the annual seminar on Buddhist Studies. This is a wonderful time to reconnect with old friends and classmates and participate in profound teachings and empowerments.
We are also happy to help you organize a practice retreat experience while you are here in Nepal. Please be in touch if any of these opportunities are of interest.
Support with prayer and puja requests
As a service to the public, Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery offers their website Monlam for prayer and special puja requests. Often, unless you know which particular puja or prayer ceremony to sponsor, a request is made to Rinpoche and he will recommend which is most appropriate. If you need help with this request, you can contact us.
Request a transcript
Unofficial transcripts can be downloaded from your RYI student portal anytime. To request an official transcript, fill out this form and submit payment through PayPal. Contact us should you need any assistance with this process.
Request an academic reference letter
For those of you who are applying to graduate school programs, we are happy to help you get in touch with your former professors from RYI if you would like to request them to write letters of reference for you. Contact us for help with that.
This is the newest area of our alumni service. We are in the process of establishing a presence on LinkedIn to increase RYI’s ability to support graduates with career connections and opportunities.
RYI Alumni Fund
Currently, the RYI Alumni Fund seeks to support students of all nationalities in earning a degree at RYI through its scholarship program. Other projects such as rebuilding after the earthquakes in spring 2015 will be considered as well.
